The Stone Clinic in San Francisco is at the forefront of orthopedic surgery. We aim to help people keep their natural joints for as long as possible, by rebuilding, regenerating, or replacing the damaged parts of the joint using natural tissue. Patients come to us having been told that they need a total knee replacement. Very often they don't. The Meniscus Transplant Center at The Stone Clinic is an international destination for meniscus transplant, dedicated to the diagnosis, surgical implantation, and rehabilitation of people in need of meniscus tissue. Headed by world-renowned orthopedic surgeon, Kevin R. Stone MD, we have spent 30 years pioneering and refining minimally-invasive, biologic treatments, working with our deeply held belief that the body heals best when it heals itself.

How long under normal use do they last?
We aim to have your knee replacement last the rest of your life. However, if there is a traumatic injury or if the non-replaced part of your knee later becomes arthritic, we can expand from a partial knee replacement to a total knee replacement. You may find out more here www.stoneclinic.com/robotic-joint-center
Very very very good job sir ❤❤💯
Thanks for the affirmations.
what is z-lig? a natural tissue alternative..? as in still need an operation procedures?
Z lig is "humanized" animal tissue that is used as part of a ligament reconstruction or repair. While this is not in current use, you may learn more here www.stoneclinic.com/blog/2014/5/01/z-lig-approved-were-pushing-the-boundaries-of-orthopedic-surgery
Can it work for grade 3 or grade 4 osteoarthritis?
How about shock waves therapy or cold laser or magnetic any of those options for knee treatment
Those are not any therapies we use at our clinic. Unfortunately, us on the communications team cannot speak to validity of these therapies. We will suggest your question be addressed in one of Dr. Stone's future blogs though. You can sign up for Dr. Stone's blog here www.stoneclinic.com/blog

BS after 10 weeks
This recovery time is very typical of our knee replacement patients. Most patients walk out of the surgery center the day their procedure is completed, cycle within weeks after surgery, and return to full activity between 4 and 8 months post-op. You can learn more about the technology that makes this possible here www.stoneclinic.com/robotic-joint-center
I had a full knee replacement down here in Emery in Atlanta, Georgia and I walked out of the hospital that day and I never used a walker a cane or anything like that except for my husband wanted me to use Walker when we went out to eat because he was afraid that somebody would knock into me I can literally put my butt on my ankles I have no pain I’d still and it’s been almost it’ll be a year in the 27th. It still feels like I have a little bit of a balloon feeling on the inside, but I kind of waxes in Waynes it kinda comes and goes so but I have no pain. I have good range of motion, so I’m really happy.
So happy to hear that you're happy with the results of your surgery. Wishing you many more years of successful outcome.
I had a partial knee replacement using robotic assist at the end of August 2012 at age 59. I was skiing 3 months later and still ski, at age 72 and walk without limitation. I did curtail my basketball playing (previously 3 times a week pick-up), but have occasionally played since without ill effect.
Awesome! We're so glad to hear that you're happy with the results of your surgery. Wishing you many more years of successful outcome.
This is an awesome video…doc explained clearly which noises in the joint are bad especially meniscus tear 🙌
Glad it was helpful! You may find more detail in a blog written by Dr Stone here www.stoneclinic.com/blog/2013/12/9/whats-happening-when-your-knee-goes-snap-crackle-and-pop
Thank you so much for sharing that bc it definitely lets me know where and how I get physical therapy also matters!

Hello. You can certainly send us your MRIs & x-rays and arrange a telehealth consultation with Dr. Stone to review your injury. Once Dr. Stone has your medical imaging and health history, then he can answer your questions about treatment options and expectations.. Just follow the instructions on this page to get connected www.stoneclinic.com/consult
It is possible to do it even at 64 years old ?
Possibly. We have performed this procedure for patients of that age. Below is our guidance from our "Saving My Knees Guide" which you may download here www.stoneclinic.com/saving-my-knees "BioKnee procedures such as cartilage replacements can often be performed as long as there is space available, meaning that the joint is not completely bone-on-bone. Patients who are candidates for a BioKnee often have symptoms associated with pain isolated primarily to one side of the joint and do not have underlying inflammatory arthritis such as rheumatoid arthritis which differs from injury-caused post-traumatic or osteoarthritis. Ideally, their range of motion is not too severely limited and their legs are not too badly bowed inside or curved outside (i.e. less than 10 degrees of angulation)."
Dude they did her dirty SMH lawsuit!!!!

Hello, I have 4x6 mm full thickness cartilage deficit in patella of my right knee. It causes inflammation and I am in very bad pain. Would you kindly suggest me a suitable treatment? Do I need replacement ?

Hi there. Only Dr. Stone can advise on whether or not you need surgery AFTER he has reviewed your x-rays and MRI. If you'd like to arrange for a complimentary consultation with Dr. Stone, you may do so by following the instructions on this page www.stoneclinic.com/consult. In the meantime, you may learn more about our ankle/Achilles program by downloading our Saving My Ankle Guide available here www.stoneclinic.com/saving-my-ankle-guide
What app is he using?
How long after you ruptured your tendon did you have the surgery? I ruptured mine 7 months ago and was told that it's too late for a technique like this.
Hi there. We consider an Achilles rupture as an urgent issue that requires immediate surgical intervention. The patients we diagnose with an Achilles rupture are normally taken into surgery within 7 days of the diagnosis. You can find out more about why in this blog from the operating surgeon Kevin R. Stone, MD www.stoneclinic.com/blog/achilles-repairs-top-level-athletes
@@stoneclinic thanks for the information. It's so unfortunate that getting into see a physician and then a specialist is ridiculously long. It was on the order of 3 months here in Southern Washington. I'll just hobble around for the next few years until I figure something out.
@@chrisrudy1969 We are happy to help however we can. We treat many patients from your state who travel to for specialized care. Dr. Stone has assisted many Achilles patients back to full functionality and sports. If you'd like to find out how we can help you, you may arrange a phone consultation with Dr. Stone himself by following the instructions on this page www.stoneclinic.com/consult
Doctor Stone showing a man with partial knee replacement running a marathon is entirely counterproductive to safety of patients... As a senior surgeon this will give unrealistic expectations to patients who can damage their implants by indulging in jogging or running!
This is the absolute best taping method to use on a shoulder instead of the fancy tape! I've used this to heal my shoulder without surgery! Do you know how hard it was to find anyone using this technique?! Well done!
How can check what’s going on with my knees? I live in Naples Florida.
Hi there. Over half our patients come to our clinic from out of state/country so we are specially set up to assist traveling patients. We offer a complimentary phone consultation with Dr.Stone where he can offer a treatment plan for your injury. Just follow the instructions this page www.stoneclinic.com/consult
Ruined so many athletes
Would like to hear the latest situation
Kraig has returned to triathlons, trail running, hiking, mountain biking etc. Kraig has competed in many races since his replacement. His most current race was the Xterra tri in Whistler in September. We couldn't be happier for him!
So what is the advantage of an uncemented knee procedure versus a cemented piece?
Head to this webpage to find out all about robotic knee replacement program www.stoneclinic.com/knee-replacement. Basically, the difference is that bone cement can loosen. The implant used by Dr. Stone actually fuses directly to the bone which drastically reduces the chances of ever coming loose. This means patients can return to impact sports like running and not worry about the knee replacement failing.
What was the original diagnosis? Was it osteoarthritis on the medial aspect of each knee?
Mild OA. However, the OA was causing Gary pain and swelling on every run.
So these are all "Partial" knee replacements. Any folks running on TKR? Any success stories there?
Sure there are. Dr. Stone tries to preserve all healthy knee anatomy and only performs total knee replacements when the knee is completely arthritic in all 4 compartments of the knee. So he performs more partial knee replacements than totals. Here is a story from a runner in his 70s who is still participating in marathons and runs 30+ miles per week www.stoneclinic.com/story/marathon-running-his-seventies-total-knee-replacements
How’s the knee holding up ? Any regrets ?
We last heard from Scott in 2022 with this message "The partial knee replacement that Dr. Stone did is still "perfect": asymptomatic, strong, full flexibility, and in no way inhibits my continuing my "super active" lifestyle of participating at a national and world-class level in triathlons and duathlons...and all of the other sports I love. " You can see all his full story including his updates here www.stoneclinic.com/story/triathlete-returns-podium-after-partial-knee-replacement
Just had a partial knee replacement on Nov 20, my PT says I’m 2-3 stages ahead of schedule for flex action, but swelling and healing should be the main interest for the next few weeks! It’s only been 4 days after surgery, pain is not a factor, just follow the recovery program goals and you’ll be fine, I’m 74 played pickleball 7 days a week day before the operation, and I’m looking forward to being on the court soon!
That's wonderful news! Best of the luck with the rest of your recovery and enjoy yourself once you back on the court.
Thanks for this, Laurie. This is encouraging as I’ve just pushed the button on simultaneous partial replacement of both knees, here in the UK. I’m an avid cyclist and can ride 150 miles without any knee pain. But walking 1/2 a mile is painful. The consultant surgeon was impressed with my flexibility which is a result of low impact cycling. This has also contributed to strong leg muscles, which I hope will help with recovery. Good luck with getting back to your former fitness.
Glad Laurie's story could provide some inspiration. We wish you the best of luck with your procedures and recovery. Please keep in mind that Laurie's recovery results are specific to a patient who has had their knee replaced by Dr. Stone using the Stryker MAKO Robotic-Assisted surgical robot and undergoing our StoneFit physical therapy program. Different knee replacement implants or manually performed knee replacements may not permit impact sports or intense physical activity. Be sure to discuss your goals for surgery prior to your procedure and be sure to clear any return to sports with your orthopaedist/physical therapist before starting your first run. Thanks for the comment and we hope you get back to cycling and running soon!
